Basis for a Programme of Chemical Investigations to be Carried out by the Water Industry During the AMP6 Period
The first phase of the UKWIR Chemical Investigations Programme (CIP 2010-2013) provided knowledge of the occurrence and behaviour of trace contaminants in wastewater treatment processes and in effluents. This initial work had been aimed at the discovery of relative risk, prioritisation of different substances and their sources. A second phase of the programme, to support AMP6/7 investment, has been designed to run from 2015-2020.
The approach to this phase of the CIP is focussed on demonstration of site-specific compliance status, of a clearly justifiable need for action / investment and of the potential improvements in effluent quality offered by various novel treatment processes. The report of this project documents the design of the scope and content of ongoing investigations. The future programme integrates coordination of the CIP with the National Phosphorus Trials.
